„Gewalt kommt mir nicht auf den Campus!“

The Equal Opportunities Offices of RWTH Aachen University, FH Aachen and Studierendenwerk Aachen are taking part in the campaign “Gewalt kommt mir nicht auf den Campus!” (Violence doesn't come on campus!), initiated by the State Conference of Equal Opportunities Officers of Universities and University Hospitals in North Rhine-Westphalia (LaKof). Around the campaign day, sandwich bags will be used in the dining halls to draw attention to gender-specific violence. The nationwide emergency number 116 016 is printed on the bags as well as the finger movements of the “silent call for help”, which those affected can use to signal an emergency situation.

Removing taboos from the topic and raising public awareness is also the aim of the UN campaign “Orange The World”, which has been drawing attention to violence against women and girls since 1991. RWTH Aachen University is participating in the campaign for the fourth time and is hoisting orange flags in front of the main building during the “Orange Days” from 25 November to Human Rights Day on 10 December. The color orange symbolizes a future without violence against women.

Film screening and events
To mark the day of action, the RWTH Equal Opportunities Office and the Rector's Office Inclusion, Gender and Diversity (IGaD), in cooperation with RWTH Filmstudio, will be showing the feature film “Morgen ist auch noch ein Tag” on 27 November at 8:15 pm in the auditorium of the main building. The tragicomedy sheds light on the topic of domestic violence and at the same time gives hope for a better future. Further information on the program and ticket sales can be found on the Filmstudio website.

In cooperation with the AStA, the RWTH Equal Opportunities Office is also offering a lecture on the topic of “Gender - Power - Science. (Anti)discrimination in studies and teaching”. What role does gender play at universities today? How neutral and objective is the academic system? Melanie Bittner's lecture, which will take place on 20 November from 7-8:30 pm at HKW, is dedicated to these questions.

Further information and offers from the Gender Equality Office can be found on the campaign website.
