In spring, it's time to submit the BAföG repeat application for the winter semester 2025/2026.
What do I need to consider?
The BAföG application should be submitted via the online portal of the state of NRW. This has the advantage that the entries on the forms can be saved and processing is quicker. There are also instructions for completing the forms.
The income situation of parents and spouse/partner from the calendar year 2023 applies for the calculation of the education grant.
The BAföG office recommends submitting the application in April/May 2025 so that payment is made without interruption if possible.
If the winter semester 2025/2026 is the fifth semester, proof of aptitude (Form 5) is required, which must be completed by the university. Form 5 and the certificate of enrollment for the winter semester 2025/2026 can be submitted at a later date - preferably immediately upon receipt to avoid interruptions in payment.
An application is not required if the maximum funding period (standard period of study) has already been reached and there are no reasons for funding beyond the maximum funding period. An exception is "Flexibilitätssemester".
Please note: Notifications of educational funding for the winter semester 2025/2026 will only be sent out at the beginning of the semester.
Information on assets: In the case of assets, these must be stated without exception - as requested in Form 1 - and documented with supporting documents. If the assets amount to less than €10,000, the form
"Vereinfachte Vermögensfeststellung" must be completed and submitted via BAföG-Digital. Form 9 must be used for a repeat application. Offsettable debts reduce the assets.
