In spring, it's time to submit the BAföG repeat application for the winter semester 2024/2025. What do I need to consider?

The income situation of the parents and spouse/partner from the calendar year 2022 applies for the calculation of the education grant. The necessary forms can be downloaded here or collected from Studierendenwerk (Pontwall 3, 52062 Aachen, at the Infopoint on the ground floor).

The BAföG application should be submitted via e-mail to bafoeg@stw.rwth-aachen.de or, even better, via the online portal of the state of NRW (www.bafoeg-online.nrw.de). This has the advantage that the entries on the forms can be saved and processing is quicker. There are also instructions for completing the forms. Important: Even when applying online, all forms must be signed.

The BAföG office recommends submitting the application in


April/May 2024


so that payment is made without interruption if possible.

If the winter semester 2024/2025 is the fifth semester, proof of eligibility (Form 5) is required, which must be completed by the university. Form 5 and the certificate of enrollment for the winter semester 2024/2025 can be submitted at a later date - preferably immediately after receipt to avoid interruptions in payment.

An application is not required if the maximum funding period (standard period of study) has already been reached and there are no reasons for funding beyond the maximum funding period.

Note: Notifications of educational funding for the winter semester 2024/2025 will only be sent out at the beginning of the semester.

Information on assets: In the case of assets, these must be stated without exception - as requested in Form 1 - and documented with supporting documents. Exceptions are only possible in the case of a repeat application using Form 9. Offsettable debts reduce the assets.

A separate Form 3 must be completed in full for each parent and spouse/cohabiting partner under the Civil Partnership Act who received income in 2022

Tax assessment notice 2022
for tax assessment of parents or spouse/life partner (all pages)

Form 5
from the fifth semester onwards

Study certificate
for the winter semester 2024/2025 (certificate according to §9 BAföG for the Office for Educational Support in the original)

Copy of rental agreement
or rental certificate (please only submit if the rental certificate for the current apartment is not yet available here)

Certificate from your health/nursing care insurance
stating the legal basis under which you are insured there (but only if you are no longer covered by family insurance)

Proof of education of your siblings
Current school/study certificate or copy of the training contract

Proof of your assets
with value as of the date of application, as requested in Form 1
