New series of events “Families in focus”

For most people, the family is the center of their lives and a source of support. But of course not everything is “sunshine and roses”: time pressure, the tension between family and career, financial challenges, new family constellations, omnipresent media and their effects - these can also mean family. The fragile fabric of “family” can sometimes reach its limits.

“Families in Focus” is a new series of events organized by the working group (AG) „Familienfreundliche Wissenschaftsstadt“ (‘‘Family-Friendly City of Science’’) on all aspects of family life, in which some of these issues are specifically addressed in lectures and concrete solutions and tips for families are provided.

Kick-off at the Centre Charlemagne
The event kicks off on Saturday, 2 November from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Centre Charlemagne on Katschhof. On this day, the members of the working group “Familienfreundliche Wissenschaftsstadt” will be presenting themselves and want to talk to families and listen to their concerns in order to integrate current topics into the series of events. There will also be a creative program for children and families as well as free family tours.

At the second event on Sunday, 1 December, the foster care service in the city of Aachen will be providing informal information at the Family Sunday in the Aachen City Library, Couvenstraße 15, about the requirements that foster carers must meet, how they are prepared for the fostering relationship, what previous experience the children bring with them and which backgrounds they come from.

Further dates, topics and content will be added regularly and published at www.aachen.de/familienfokus. The lecture series starting now is open to all families and single parents. All events are free of charge.
