Family playroom on Komphausbadstraße in Aachen
A new place to meet and socialize has been created in Aachen: An area on the first floor of the former department store - the Horten-Haus or former "Lust for life" - in Komphausbadstraße has been temporarily changed into a consumer-free lounge and play area for families. Studierendenwerk Aachen, operator of five childcare facilities for students, is taking over the sponsorship.
Aachen's city center is a lively place that is very popular with both local families and visitors. However, there are currently only a few designated play areas for children and there is a lack of consumer-free recreational spaces. In order to make a further contribution to the revitalization of Aachen's city centre, a temporary family play area was set up in the former department store on Komphausbadstraße in cooperation with the City of Aachen, the Aachener Initiative LustAufLife and Studierendenwerk. Studierendenwerk is involved as a sponsor and the facility is financed by the City of Aachen with a total of 36,000 euros. Sebastian Böstel, Managing Director of Studierendenwerk, is happy to take on the new task: "A space like this not only offers children and families a valuable opportunity to spend time together, but also strengthens social interaction and togetherness in our city."
The project, which starts on 1 June aims to create a centrally located place that can be used regardless of the weather and offers both children and parents an attractive place to spend time, free from consumerism and shopping offers. Children will have the opportunity to learn through play, let off steam creatively and improve their social skills, while adults will find a place to relax and spend time together. The room is supervised by Studierendenwerk staff.
Thanks to its central location, the playroom is easily accessible by public transport. The area has many different play elements to suit children of all ages. Bobby cars and exercise games such as table tennis and table football are available during opening hours, and low-threshold activities such as painting and handicrafts are also on the program. Children from the age of ten can visit the facility independently and without parental supervision.
The plans envisage temporary use up to and including September.
