DAKA loan
The Studierendenwerke in North Rhine-Westphalia run their own loan society (Darlehenskasse). DAKA is a non-profit organization. Students of RWTH Aachen, FH Aachen and Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, location Aachen apply for DAKA via Studierendenwerk Aachen.
The loan is intended to help cover living and study expenses. An interest-free DAKA loan of 12 000 € maximum can be granted. An administration fee (5 percent of the loan amount) has to be paid.
The following requirements must be met:
- Enrolled at RWTH Aachen, FH Aachen, KatHo Aachen or Hochschule für Musik und Tanz, location Aachen
- Exclusion of all other ways of financial help for students
- Proof of financial hardship must be provided
- Drawing up of an absolute guarantee, the guarantor must
- have regular income
- be of age
- be a permanent resident of Germany.
In exceptional cases also a bank guarantee is possible.
There is no legal right to Daka loans. If funds are available and all requirements are met, the loan will be disbursed without bureaucratic procedures.
Repayment starts twelve months after imbursement of the whole loan amount. The monthly rate is at least 150 euros. The loan is interest-free if the loan holder repays according to the rules.
