Better financial help for students

Good news for next year: The loan office of the NRW Student Services (Darlehenskasse der Studentenwerke NRW) will expand its offer. From 1 January 2016 students in all semesters can apply for the Daka loan. Up to now, only students in the final stage of studies have qualified for the loan.

Students can apply for the loan at Daka NRW via their local Studierendenwerk. The maximum loan amount is 12 000 euros; that means up to 1 000 euros per month.

The loan amount is calculated according to the student’s individual needs. The repayment normally starts twelve months after the loan payment has ended, but it can be postponed. No interest is charged; only an administration fee (5 percent of the loan amount) has to be paid. Daka NRW is a non-profit organization of the Studierendenwerke NRW.

In 2014, 776 students in NRW received 4.46 million euros in total from Daka NRW; from that, 69 students in Aachen received 417 400 euros.
