Price increase for social contribution and meal prices

Following a decision by the Administrative Board of the Studierendenwerk Aachen, the social contribution will be increased by 20 euros from 108 to 128 euros with effect from the 2026 summer semester. In addition, cafeteria prices will rise in all price categories on February 1, 2026. These measures are necessary in order to maintain the range of services in the medium term and to meet the increased demand for psychosocial counseling among students.

The main reasons for the increases include, in particular, covering the deficit in the area of university catering and financing the energy-efficient renovation of the Mensa Academica. The general subsidy from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is no longer sufficient to compensate for the increased costs in the areas of personnel, purchasing, and energy. Compared to 2022, state funding is significantly lower.

Due to steadily rising costs, meal prices in the cafeterias must also be adjusted. The additional revenue generated by this will be used to increase the social contribution and to maintain current operations with the existing range of services. The student price will remain the cheapest rate; guests and university staff will pay correspondingly higher prices.

The new meal prices will apply from February 1, 2026, in accordance with the following table:
