Good news for students who spend a semester during their studies abroad: Daka (Darlehenskasse der Studierendenwerke) expands its offer: As from the summer term 2019 Daka provides student loans specially for semesters spent abroad.

Students can apply for a loan of up to 6 000 € for a semester they want to spend at a University abroad; the loan is disbursed in one sum.

The loan amount is determined according to the applicant’s needs. The repayment normally starts twelve months after the disbursement, but it can be postponed in special well-founded cases.

The loan is interest-free, but a processing fee of 5 percent of the total loan amount will be charged.

Daka is a non-profit joint organization run by the twelve North Rhine-Westphalian Studierendenwerke. For more than 60 years it has helped students with financial aid. It is the biggest loan society run by Studierendenwerke in Germany; in the last student loan test by CHE (Centrums für Hochschulentwicklung) it got excellent results again.
