  • Common Federation and German States university social pact next to the studies capacity extension
  • Achim Meyer auf der Heyde, general secretary of Deutsches Studentenwerk: ‘‘The studies capacity extension has to be followed by the extension of the dining hall capacity.’’

Erfurt/Berlin, 11 September 2019. 57 Studenten and Studierendenwerke, organised by Deutsches Studentenwerk (DSW), need government support for the extension and redevelopment of its dining halls, Deutsches Studentenwerk stated due to its conference at Studierendenwerk Thüringen in Erfurt.

‘’Between 2007 and 2023 the Federation and the German States will have invested about €38 billion in the studies capacity extension. Starting in 2024, about €4 billion are going to be invested each year. When does the necessary extension of the dining hall capacity take place? The social infrastructure needs to grow together with the extension of the university system, ‘’ DSW general secretary Achim Meyer auf der Heyde said on the occasion of the conference opening that was organized by Studierendenwerk Thüringen.

Meyer auf der Heyde said: ’’The dining halls work on their limits and some exceed the limit.’’The demand regarding time and organization due to the bachelor's and master´s degree programs was high as well as the legal and technical guideline for the food production.

‘’There is also a high level of technology in dining hall kitchens regarding kitchen tools, refrigeration, cleaning and ventilation. All that causes high maintenance and repair costs and that is why the investments in the substance and extension of the about 4,000 Studentenwerk dining halls is necessary,’’ Meyer auf der Heyde said.

The DSW conference takes place on 11 and 12 September 2019 in Erfurt, hosted by Studierendenwerk Thüringen.
