Arbeitsgemeinschaft Studierendewerke in NRW shares the skepticism of the state rectors' conferences.
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Studierendenwerke NRW (ARGE StW) shares the skepticism of the state rectors' conferences of the universities and universities of applied sciences of North Rhine-Westphalia regarding the sufficient effectiveness of the measures taken by the government so far. Without a separate university vaccination campaign, with a focus on the rapid vaccination of students, there is a threat of a fourth digital semester in a row in fall. Students who began their bachelor's studies in the summer semester of 2020 would have to spend the majority of their standard period of study on digital teaching.
Plans of the government for the 2021/2022 winter semester
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is planning a predominantly face-to-face winter semester in 2021/2022 for its 750,000 students. Both Minister President Armin Laschet and Science Minister Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen promise the prospect of offering students a vaccination program over the summer, particularly via the vaccination centers.
Jörg Schmitz, NRW student unions spokesman:
"Now the state must finally proactively organize an effective vaccination campaign for the many tens of thousands of unvaccinated students in NRW. We, student unions, are happy to help with all the resources we have."
Vaccination centers at university?
In order for the government and universities to quickly agree on the implementation of a university vaccination campaign over the summer, the student unions are offering their help in organizing the vaccination campaign for students, e.g. in the form of setting up possible vaccination centers.
