Berlin, 24 January 2018.
Voices for more affordable student housing: DSW asks for support in its campaign “Head needs roof”. The campaign aims at prompting the German governments to do more for the construction and renovations of student residence halls.

On the campaign website www.mein-studentenwohnheim.de supporters can vote and explain in a short note of 240 characters maximum why they speak out for more affordable housing for students.

Many of the votes and notes already submitted criticize that it is a big challenge for students in many university cities to find affordable apartments or rooms.

"We invite everybody to take part in the campaign", says DSW General Secretary Achim Meyer auf der Heyde. "The more votes we get the better we can show the government that there is an urgent need for action."

The 58 Studentenwerke and Studierendenwerke organized within DSW have criticized for a long time that there are not enough affordable apartments for the 2,8 million students in Germany. Therefore, they demand a University Social Agreement made by the German governments for the construction and renovation of student residence halls.
