„Tandem Special“: Cooks from Studierendenwerk Aachen visit Mensa Zittau

From 24 to 26 April cooks from Aachen are going to visit the dining hall in Zittau in order to prepare meals from their region. This is the second part of the exchange between Studierendenwerk Aachen and Studentenwerk Dresden. In the summer of 2017 the team from Zittau stayed in Aachen and presented the Lausitz cuisine.
What started in 2005 as an eastern German project developed into a tradition throughout Germany: For three days cooks from one Studentenwerk visit one of the other 57 German Studentenwerke in order to prepare dishes that are typical for their region. The teams can exchange experiences and the customers get to know new dishes.
On 24 April the team of cooks is going to prepare Vol-au-Vent with veal stew, French fries and salad with raspberry dressing and Belgian rice cake as dessert. On the second day there will be Döppelkooche with apple sauce as starter and pork schnitzel with Monschau mustard sauce, Lyon potatoes and mixed salad with vinaigrette as main course. The last day they serve sauerbraten-beef-cheeks, mashed potatoes with fried onions and cabbage. There will be Dutch Vla as dessert.
Not only will the customers in Zittau get to know traditional food from Aachen but they will also receive interesting information material about the region located at the borders of the Netherlands and Belgium. The team from Aachen will be rewarded for their long trip to the most eastern point of Germany: The team in Zittau has planned trips to the Zittau Mountains as well as to Görlitz and Dresden.
