Vegan-friendly dining hall: PETA praises Bistro Templergraben

Bistro Templergraben of Studierendenwerk Aachen was awarded an outstanding 4.5 leaves in the PETA ranking “Vegan-friendly dining hall”. This makes it one of the best-ranked university dining halls in Germany, improving by half a point compared to the previous year.

PETA evaluates according to clear criteria: The food should be plant-based, ingredients and nutritional values transparent, animal products avoided in main components and preparation. Individual dietary requirements - such as for allergy sufferers or meat and dairy substitutes - are also taken into account in the assessment. Commitment to sustainability, animal welfare and environmental awareness as well as regular staff training on vegan options, allergens and hygiene also count. Continuous improvement and disclosure of measures to expand the vegan offering round off the criteria.

Bistro Templergraben offers a wide selection: vegan snacks, pastries, meat, fish and dairy alternatives and, more recently, homemade vegan cakes every day. Regular staff training ensures quality, transparency and sustainable service. In future, the bistro plans to record the carbon footprint of its dishes - a step towards making environmental awareness measurable and offering guests greater transparency.

“The positive assessment motivates us to further expand and constantly improve our vegan offering,” says Arnold Mattes, Head of Dining Department at Studierendenwerk Aachen.
