In our five childcare centers we provide 170 childcare places: The centers Pusteblume, Sonnenstrahl, Königshügel and Piccolino take care of 158 children of students and university staff in Aachen. The childcare center Wolkennest provides 12 places for children below 3 years on FH Campus Jülich.

In 2000, the Childcare center Pusteblume was set up in the south of Aachen, in close vicinity to the Kaiser-Friedrich-Park. Since 2008 it has been a certified Family Center (Familienzentrum NRW)

In this childcare center parents and children benefit from the courses and activities offered by the Family Center Pusteblume which they can sign up for directly and easily. The aim is to empower parents in their parenting tasks. Playing is very important – since 2012, Pusteblume has been a certified “Childcare Games Center” (Kita-Spielothek). Children and parents can borrow group games und take them home.

Kinderkrippe Piccolino
Piccolino is funded according to the KiBiz (Children Education Law). Studierendenwerk Aachen has run the facility since 1971 in a former guest mansion of RWTH Aachen on Königshügel.

Piccolino cares for students’ babies and toddlers. The focus is on early music education as well as on finger and movement plays. The parents are closely involved.

Königshügel was founded in 2011 as a cooperation project between RWTH Aachen as investor and Studierendenwerk Aachen as provider.

Childcare for children of students and children of RWTH Aachen employees
Königshügel cares for children of studying parents as well as of RWTH staff. Additionally, there are a few places for children of Studierendenwerk Aachen staff. The building is located on the site of the old Botanical Garden of RWTH Aachen on Königshügel, Melatener Straße. The focus is on musical pedagogy and movement.

The Childcare center Sonnenstrahl is a certified “Childcare Movement Center”
(Bewegungskindergarten des Landessportbundes Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V.) and is located in close vicinity to the Aachen city forest.
Physical activity is most important: Psychomotor learning and many different movement activities, either supervised by the staff or in free play, satisfy the children’s natural need to move. The parents are regularly involved in community activities and are confronted with the topic of movement.

Since 2009, Studierendenwerk Aachen has offered childcare for babies and toddlers of students who are enrolled at FH Aachen on Campus Jülich. The center is located on the FH Jülich Campus on Heinrich-Mußmann-Straße.
The focus is on improving the children’s vocabulary and motor skills with the help of games and movement activities.
